Millennium Eyes
This look is created using one of the eyeshadows from my Ecstatic Eyeshadows store on Etsy - the silvery, blue color called 'Millennium." I also used a shimmery, light brown from the Coastal Scents 120 Palette, although any light brown/tan, shimmery shadow will due, as it is a neutral color. The eyeliner is Maybelline Define-A-Line in 'Brownish Black' (though I don't see any sign of black... it's a medium golden brown hue). I also highlighted around my tear duct using Wet 'n Wild idol eyes cream shadow pencil in #130 'Pixie'. Those who view this blog and would like a FREE sample of 'Millennium', please comment below and I will leave information on how to obtain your free sample. Simple Galaxy Nails
I've seen some pretty detailed Galaxy Nails before, but before I try my hand at that, I accidentally discovered this EASY Galaxy Nail look. The best part? It's SUPER cheap!
First, use any base coat desired. I have so many out there that I like, I don't want to only list one.
Second, apply two coats of Wet 'n Wild - Wild Shine nail color in #417F
Third, apply one coat of Pure Ice nail polish in #989 Oh Baby!
Top with choice of top coat, if desired. (when I use glitter polish, I skip the top coat)
It's just too bad the photo just doesn't do justice!
The glitter looks white, but when put over purple, the fine glitter flecks turn an amazing shade of blue! Talk about Galaxy Nails!

Product Review: Too Faced Eye Insurance
I recently tried out a sample of Too Faced's Shadow Insurance. I was more than impressed with the stuff (and no, I was in no way paid to say that!). I typically used Mary Kay Eyeshadow Primer, which also does an amazing job. I say these two are comparable as both have lasted overnight, prevent creasing, and enhance color dramatically.

How to get Big Hair without Teasing
If you prefer to see the video, scroll down below. If you prefer to read about it... keep on doing what your doin!
I'm a type of girl who seriously cannot stand flat roots. I have such a "fluffy" face (Thanks, Ashly for the term "fluffy".. so using it now) that my hair needs to be equally big in order to balance it all out. I usually back comb/tease my hair in order to get the lift and shape that I want. However, I know teasing is bad for your hair and many people want the healthier approach for their hair. Enter John Frieda. I've tried many volumizing products before, and this is the only one to leave me happy - John Frieda's Lavish Lift Root Booster (say that 3 times fast!). According to the directions, you spray it on damp hair. However, I have found it works EVEN BETTER on dry hair! On days I don't backcomb, I spritz my hair generously with this miracle spray and flip over to blow dry my roots upside down (notice I said roots... just spray the stuff on your roots too... not your whole head). Once it has all dried, sit in a chair with you head still flipped over so that your hair can cool down - this helps set it. If you flip your head back upright while it's still warm, you'll lose half of the volume. Do NOT put your hair in a ponytail, this, especially while warm, will cause a crease in your hair. After it's cooled, flip your hair back to normal position and gently brush through it enough to smooth it out (you should already be tangle free, so don't go over brushing it). Voila! Instant volume! If you do this trick regularly, be sure to occasionally use a clarifying shampoo to get rid of any product buildup.
Let me know if this trick worked for you. Have you tried anything else that has worked wonders? Let me and fellow readers know by commenting below!

Daily Affirmation - 11/13/13
If you know me, you know I LOVE me some good quotes. Today's affirmation comes from MarkAMoment.com:
What are some of the wonderful things you've accomplished in your life? How about what goals do you have left to accomplish? What are you working on now? Identify those things you've accomplished, and then realize there are so many things out there that you have done that positively affected someone else's life and you may have never even realized it. Give yourself a pat on the back... yes, seriously! Continue to do the great things you do as they do have a domino effect and do continue to enhance your inner beauty.
This is the time and place to brag - below, share some of your accomplishments with others. Don't be shy!
Something I can think of for myself is having helped quite a bit when my mother was going through some extremely rough years on an experimental medication she was prescribed. They family would not be thrilled if I went into detail, so I'll just stick to the basics. My dad needed help each night. Neither of my sisters were really old enough or mature enough to handle it, so my dad came to me night after night. It did cause quite a toll on me in the long run, but more recently, my mom and I have re-established our bond. If I hadn't been there so support my dad those late nights, I can't even begin to imagine where our family would stand today.
Now, it's your turn! Post below :)

Water and Sex Appeal
This was actually a post on one of my other blogs, The Bariatric Binder, but it plays such an important role that I have to share for those of you looking to clear your skin and have a glow, lose weight, and just be healthy:
"Yep, the topic of this post sounds a bit strange but I promise the two tie together. I have not heard of any bariatric team that doesn't require it's patients' to consume tons of water on a daily basis. My hospital requires 80 ounces of water to be consumed each day. This is a habit to last for the rest of your life. There are many reasons why we have to consume so much water and that can be explained if you check out the following link:
Bariatric Choice - Water and Fluid Needs of Bariatric Surgery Patients
I am in no way affiliated with the link above. I just simply did a quick search for reputible links that explain the importance of water, especially in bariatric patients, and thought this covered it well (and saves me some typing).
You may think you get more than the needed amount of water, but you may be surprised. One of my prescriptions (unrelated to bariatric surgery) causes me to constantly feel overheated and my mouth is always dry. So, you can say I definately drink a lot of water, or so I thought. Some days I'd drink close to about 60 ounces, other days I'd hardly make a dent in my required amount. Having to force yourself to drink more water than you are used to is, in my opinion, just as hard as getting yourself to get up and go to the gym. It definately makes you feel full all day, which makes you NOT want to consume all the extra vegetables you're supposed to be consuming as well. You have to pace yourself also or you will experience nausea from guzzling the water too quickly (which can also be dangerous, but that's if you go on like extreme H2O overload binge within a much shorter period of time).
At first, I was making tick marks on paper to keep track of how many glasses of water I had, so I knew if I was meeting my goal. I found it to be easier to just use a large bottle or pitcher to keep track. That way, you can see how much you've consumed so far that day and how much is left. There's a 64 ounce bottle of blueberry-pomegranate juice that I find to be perfect for the job. It's big, but not quite as bulky as a gallon jug, so it usually fits width-wise wherever I need it to. I fill it up one and a half times a day to be sure I get my daily water intake. Many patients like to use flavorings such as 'Mio' to help them get down the water easier. I tried a generic version of 'Mio', and found it reminded me too much of a more watered down version of NyQuil. I'm not sure if the name brand would be any better or not, since I haven't tried it yet. 'Crystal Light' has always been something I like, as well as the Kool Aid powder (sweetened with something like Splenda, NOT sugar) to occassionally mix things up.
Now here's where the whole 'sex appeal' part comes in. I want my water to stay cold so I keep the large bottle in the fridge for the most part. However, others come accross it and decide to help themselves. Sure, you can say "hey, I use this to keep track of my water intake", and that might keep all other hands off, but in some cases (such as mine), it won't make a difference.... especially if it's a pretty color from some flavoring. Our water has 'sex appeal'.... aka, others wont keep their hands off it and are attracted to drinking our cold water.
Solution? Everyone who knows me knows that I have bariatric protein shakes and vitamins. They have no desire to try any of that stuff. I may use an empty bottle of some sort of juice to hold plain water in, and I'll put a piece of masking tape on it and write "Bariatric Water". The bottle will still have a scent from the juice that was previously in it, so it seems to our unknowing suspects that something is in the water. However, they usually just see the 'Bariatric' label and run for the hills. I've also done this with water I've mixed with, for example, "Crystal Light Raspberry Ice". It's like a psychological trigger.... they are otherwise attracted to this colorful beverage, but if they see a 'bariatric' label, they see the color and think, "eww. That's some medicinal stuff! Gross!" None the wiser that we bested them and our drinks no longer appeal to them, thus we can maintain an accurate measurement of our water consumption.
This trick has also worked with food. Sure, unless you buy some special labels to make it look professional, they're gonna see it's homemade. However, they don't know if you mixed some special source of gritty vitamins in with your food when preparing it. I know I'm not happy when I spend half a day in the kitchen preparing food to last me a week and next thing I know, everyone is 'picking' at it until it's more than halfway gone.
Give the "Bariatric" label a try... It's proven far more helpful to me than writing "don't touch" and/or my name on it.

Update (4/14/2013): For those of you with smartphones, there are plenty of water tracking apps available. I've found this more helpful as I switch between various flavored drinks and water bottles. Speaking of waterbottles, Sportline created the Hydracoach (you can find on Amazon.com) which tracks the amount of fluid you drink in a 24 hr period. This was advertised as being 'motivating' and that it would 'remind' me to drink my water... but don't be fooled. There is not alarm that goes off if you don't drink (which is pretty much WHY I purchased it). It is also hard to figure out just how to sip it to get the dang thing to record accurately. Personally, it wasn't my best way of spending $30, but for those of you who are less anal then me, this may be an option."

About Me
First off, let me introduce myself and the name of this blog - Anewu Beauty. In the great struggle of trying to find an appropriate, catchy name for the blog (a million attempts later), I came up with "Anewu", which is a fancier looking way of saying 'A New You'. To me, playing with all sorts of cosmetics is like refreshing myself, creating a new me every time. That is exactly what this blog is aiming for... to help the readers refresh themselves daily with tips and tricks, product reviews, and inner beauty reflection as well.
My name is Lyssa. I am a 27-year old single mother (of two dogs). After watching multiple YouTubers express their passion and skill with hair and makeup, I decided to gather up the courage to get in front of the camera myself. I am a rather shy person, but I see this as an opportunity to not only make new friends, but also improve my socializing skills. What's an even better bonus? I'm 273 pounds (328 at my heaviest) and, like most people, struggling to get the weight off. Recording tutorials and vlogs on YouTube has been so entertaining for me and time consuming (oh the editing!) that I've actually gone through hours of it without grazing on snacks. I finally have a hobby... and it's not watching tv! Makeup and hair has always been a passion of mine, but sharing it with other YouTubers is a whole new experience. Now, trying to keep up with blogs, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. has really become a full-time job, and quite an enjoyable one. No, I don't get paid (I've only got 76 subscribers on YouTube) with money, but I do get paid with the excitement of "someone really liked this makeup and is trying it themselves" daily. Needless to say, half of the 'views' are probably just me hitting the refresh button to see if there are any new comments I've missed, it's helped take my mind off things that would otherwise have me in a depressed state.
When I was heavier, I began having a lot of weight related health problems. I was constantly going to the doctor. Despite providing my employer with the necessary doctor notes to excuse absences, I was let go from my job. I had to make the embarrassing move back in with my parents. I decided to not obsess over finding work until I got my health under control enough that I'd be able to stand for more than 2 minutes at a time without pain or swelling. As I began losing weight, I began looking for work again. However, the task is far more difficult today, with a college degree and certificates under my belt, then it was finding my first job at age 16! I finally had two calls for a job interview, but I fell and broke my ankle and foot, as well as two ankle sprains. I had no idea how long I'd be stuck in crutches, so I let the potential jobs go. Had I known I'd be able to walk (limited, but still walking), I would have pursued those opportunities. Five and a half months later, physical therapy is showing no improvement and bones are STILL broken. I have surgery scheduled to fix it on December 4th, but I fear that there may be injured ligaments as well. Anywho, I only attend class part-time this semester, so I have lots of free time on my hands, hence eating out of boredom or habit while watching tv. After falling in love with numerous Makeup Artists and other talented girly-girls (women) on YouTube, I decided to give it a try myself. I got so into it that I had to uncover a "new" (purchased a couple years ago but never used because I didn't have memory card at the time) digital camera, as well as a professional background. If I was going to have fun playing the part, I wanted my videos to look it as well. I still wish I had the $600 cameras and the professional editing software.... maybe someday!
So what is my YouTube Channel about? It's a combination of inner beauty, daily affirmations, tutorials, reviews, and vlogging. I wanted to cover both my passion in hair and makeup, as well as my personal life on my journey towards fitness. I love it when YouTube "Gurus" share bits of their personal life with us, so I wanted to do the same for whoever was patient enough to check out my videos. Next thing I knew, recording videos became and addiction. I record faster than I can edit, and half of them don't even end up online. As I post more videos, I begin to be more perfectionist about things - I'm even considering redoing videos where I didn't have my professional background, or I just don't feel I'm lively enough.
What are my credentials? I went to cosmetology school back during my junior, and half of my senior, years of high school. Unfortunately, I chose to drop the program just before board exams because of a fellow student who was picking on me daily and making life there a living hell (check out my video for more details click here). As much as I say to never have regrets (turn any regrets into a valuable lesson), I do regret the decision to leave cosmetology school. I bounced around from career major to career major. I often asked my dad about returning to cosmetology school (he pays the tuition) but was essentially told that I bombed it already and that career was out the window for me. After seeing how excited I've been with the YouTube videos, and how much I struggle with the boring ol' college classes (oh how I hate math!), my dad told me that he would like to see me go back to cosmetology school. I was excited at the news, but full of anxiety at the same time. So many questions were, and still are, running through my head about what the right decision should be. If I had returned to cosmetology within 7 years of my being a student, I'd be able to pick up where I left off. However, I've just missed the mark and not only have to start over, but have to pay tuition and fees all over again (or at least my dad does). If I go back to cosmetology school, I get to legally do all the hair I've BEEN doing for years (I can do my own foil highlights even and cut my own hair. I do friends' hair all the time and get paid to!), however, I feel I will be a disappointment for yet again changing career goals and essentially wasting the last nearly 10 years of college. My dad is being supportive and telling me not to worry about the money or disappointing anyone - that I should just do what I enjoy and he said, more than once, that I had an "obvious" talent in the field. That meant more than the world to me to hear that from someone who's opinion I so highly value (oh gosh, I'm getting teary eyed already). The next class at the cosmetology school begins December 3, the day before my foot and ankle surgery. The following class begins in January, and I think I will be in attendance.
To all you beautiful people out there, what is your passion in life? What makes you happy? Are you getting to do that in your life, or have you let taking care of a family and raising kids take over all of your time? Don't forget that you are equally important and you should always make time for yourself, even if only for a few minutes a day.
XOXO,
Lyssa
